The higher land was very detailed, broken, ridged and textured. I decided to try an experiment with grated pieces of pastel (Fig. 7.4.5).

I grated some pastel into uneven chunks and placed these pieces on the higher land area section using a small palette knife and pushed them down using a brush. I used a little bit of spray glue to hold the pieces in place (Fig. 7.4.6). The grated pastel was applied when the drawing was on a flat surface but close reference was continuously made to the telescope view (Fig. 7.4.7).
